Mini Hydrometer Triple Scale

Price: €6,90
Pairs well with

This mini hydrometer is a compact triple-scale specific gravity instrument designed for a 50 ml glass cylinder — giving homebrewers, winemakers and cider makers an accurate gravity reading from a fraction of the sample a full-size hydrometer demands. Where a standard hydrometer needs a tall trial jar and 200 ml or more drawn from the batch for every reading, this one measures from just 50 ml: less beer sacrificed per reading, faster sampling, and a setup that actually fits on a crowded brew day.

Despite the size it is a properly made instrument: specific gravity scale from 0.980 to 1.100, calibrated at 20 °C / 68 °F for an upper-meniscus reading, with a shot-weighted ballast bulb for a stable float. The scale carries colour-coded brewing zones — a green start beer band around typical original gravities, a red finish beer band at terminal gravity, and an add sugar mark for priming — so you can read fermentation status at a glance without converting numbers first.

Every reading with a full-size hydrometer costs a meaningful pour that can't safely go back in the fermenter; tracked from pitch to terminal gravity, those samples add up. The mini hydrometer slashes that loss: draw 50 ml, spin, read, done. It is also quicker to sanitise, easier to store, and far less fragile in handling than a long standard hydrometer.

Key features

  • Triple scale: specific gravity 0.980–1.100 with colour-coded beer start/finish zones and add-sugar mark
  • Reads from just 50 ml of sample — vs 200 ml+ for a full-size hydrometer
  • Calibrated at 20 °C / 68 °F, read at the upper meniscus
  • Shot-weighted ballast for a stable, accurate float
  • Covers original gravity, fermentation tracking and final gravity for beer, wine, cider and mead
  • Compact, quick to sanitise, easy to store

Usage

  • Draw a 50 ml sample into the glass cylinder, lower the hydrometer and give it a light spin to shed bubbles
  • Read the specific gravity at the upper meniscus, where the liquid surface crosses the scale
  • Measuring away from 20 °C? Take the sample temperature and apply the standard correction
  • Green zone = typical starting gravity; red zone = fermentation finished; add-sugar mark = priming range
