Brewferm Phosphoric Acid 75% 230ml (H₃PO₄) — Mash & Wort Acidifier for Homebrewing

Price: €9,50

Brewferm Phosphoric Acid 75% is a food-grade liquid acid used by homebrewers to lower mash pH, acidify wort, and wash yeast with precision and efficiency. Supplied in a practical 230ml bottle at food-grade quality (E338), this concentrated phosphoric acid is one of the most effective and flavour-neutral pH correction tools available to the all-grain brewer — requiring significantly smaller additions than lactic acid to achieve the same pH shift, while contributing a clean, subtle flavour note that integrates seamlessly into the finished beer without the noticeable tartness that lactic acid can introduce at higher doses.

What makes phosphoric acid a compelling alternative to lactic acid for mash and wort acidification is its combination of potency and flavour neutrality. At 75% concentration, H₃PO₄ is considerably stronger than standard lactic acid solutions — meaning the volume required to achieve a target pH correction is meaningfully smaller, reducing the risk of over-acidification and giving the brewer finer, more controllable dosing precision per addition. The phosphate anion released during acidification also acts as a yeast nutrient, providing an additional phosphorus source that supports healthy yeast growth and fermentation vigour — a secondary benefit that no other common brewing acid delivers. In the wider brewing industry, phosphoric acid is the standard acid of choice for yeast washing, where its antimicrobial properties at low pH help suppress bacterial contamination while preserving viable yeast cells for repitching.

Used correctly against a target water profile and measured mash pH, Brewferm Phosphoric Acid 75% gives homebrewers a fast-acting, precise, and flavour-safe pH correction tool that works equally well for strike water pre-acidification, in-mash pH adjustment, and post-boil wort acidification.

Liquid acid — food grade E338 Phosphoric acid 75% concentration. Food-grade quality, E338 classification. Supplied in 230ml bottle. Use with appropriate PPE — concentrated acid, handle with care.

Key Features

  • Food-grade phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄) — E338 classification, safe for brewing and food use
  • 75% concentration — stronger than lactic acid, requires smaller additions for equivalent pH shift
  • Flavour-neutral — contributes a clean, subtle note without the tartness of lactic acid at equivalent doses
  • Phosphorus source for yeast — supports healthy fermentation as a yeast nutrient
  • Suitable for mash acidification, wort acidification, and yeast washing
  • 230ml bottle — sufficient for multiple brewing sessions of precise pH correction

Usage

Mash acidification: Add to strike water or directly to the mash to lower pH toward the optimal enzymatic range of 5.2–5.4. Calculate additions against your base water report using brewing software — start conservatively and measure before adding more.

Wort acidification: Add post-boil to lower finished wort pH before pitching where required.

Yeast washing: Standard acid of choice in professional brewing for yeast washing — lowers slurry pH to suppress bacterial contamination while preserving viable yeast cells for repitching.

Note: At 75% concentration, phosphoric acid is a strong corrosive — handle with care, use appropriate PPE (gloves, eye protection), and keep away from skin and eyes. Always add acid to water, never water to acid.
