Grainfather Whirlpool & Aeration Paddle — Drill-Powered Wort Stirring & Aeration Tool

Price: €33,50

The Grainfather Whirlpool and Aeration Paddle is a dual-purpose, drill-powered brewing tool that handles two of the most impactful tasks at the end of the brew day — creating a strong, efficient whirlpool for trub separation, and aerating chilled wort before pitching yeast. Constructed from food-grade 304 stainless steel with 12.5cm (5") wide blades and a 56cm (22") shaft, this paddle is engineered to deliver serious whirlpool and aeration performance with minimal physical effort — simply chuck the 8mm (1/3") drill bit into a standard electric drill and let the tool do the work.

Forming a whirlpool before pumping wort out of the kettle is one of the most effective steps a brewer can take to improve wort clarity and protect the pump and hop filter from solid matter. The centrifugal action of the whirlpool draws hop debris, hot break, and trub into a compact cone at the centre of the kettle base — creating a secondary filtration layer above the hop filter that allows clear, clean wort to flow out from the edges while solids remain behind. The Grainfather paddle generates this whirlpool quickly and powerfully, with far less effort than manual stirring and far more consistency than improvised solutions.

Aerating chilled wort before pitching is equally critical to fermentation health. Oxygen introduced at this stage is consumed rapidly by yeast in the early hours of fermentation — supporting healthy cell growth, shortening lag time, and driving a strong, vigorous fermentation from the first hours in the fermenter. The wide 12.5cm blades of this paddle incorporate dissolved oxygen into the wort efficiently and evenly, giving your yeast the best possible start without splashing or foaming.

Sealed at the tip and built from 304 stainless steel throughout, this paddle cleans and sanitises easily and is built for regular use across hundreds of brew days.

Key Features

  • Drill-powered operation — attach to any standard electric drill with 8mm (1/3") chuck
  • Dual purpose — whirlpool formation and wort aeration in a single tool
  • 304 stainless steel construction — food-grade, corrosion-resistant, easy to clean
  • 12.5cm (5") wide blades — powerful, efficient whirlpool and aeration action
  • 56cm (22") shaft length — suitable for large kettles and standard stovetop brewing pots
  • Sealed tip — no wort ingress, easy to sanitise and maintain

Usage

Whirlpool: Form before pumping wort out of the kettle to separate trub and hop debris. Creates a secondary filtration layer above the hop filter for cleaner wort flow and pump protection.

Aeration: Use after chilling wort to pitching temperature to incorporate dissolved oxygen before adding yeast. Reduces lag time and promotes strong, healthy fermentation.

Compatible with: Any standard electric drill with 8mm (1/3") chuck, Grainfather brewing systems, standard homebrew kettles — suitable for large and stovetop kettle sizes.
