Pairs well with

This refractometer reads sugar content from a few drops of wort — no trial jar, no waiting for the sample to cool. Pull a drop from the kettle with the included dropper, close the cover plate, hold it to the light and read Brix or specific gravity straight off the double scale. Built-in Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) corrects warm samples automatically, so a hot drop straight from the mash reads true after about 30 seconds on the prism.

The 0–20% Brix / 1.000–1.085 SG range is the honest choice for how most beer is actually brewed: by spreading the everyday gravity range across the full scale, the graduations are finer and easier to read than on a wide-range instrument. SG 1.085 covers everything up to a ~9% ABV wort — session beers, lagers, IPAs, tripels. Brewing an imperial stout past that? That is what our 0–32% Brix refractometer is for.

This is the original Braumarkt-branded unit, complete in its case with calibration screwdriver, dropper pipette, cleaning cloth and manual. Braumarkt has since merged into Brouwland and this model is no longer made — limited stock, new in box. One thing every refractometer owner should know: once fermentation starts, alcohol bends light too, so readings during or after fermentation need a correction calculator — for final gravity, cross-check with a hydrometer.

Key features

  • Double scale: Brix 0–20% and specific gravity 1.000–1.085
  • Finer graduations than wide-range models — easier reading for standard-strength beers
  • Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) — no correction tables for warm samples
  • Reads from a few drops — virtually zero wort lost per measurement
  • Complete kit: case, calibration screwdriver, dropper pipette, cleaning cloth, manual
  • Original Braumarkt unit, new in box — discontinued model, limited stock

Usage

  • Calibrate with a drop of distilled water: adjust to exactly 0 with the included screwdriver (at 20 °C)
  • Apply 2–3 drops on the prism, close the cover so the fluid spreads without bubbles
  • Hold horizontally, wait 30 seconds for the ATC, read the line between white and blue
  • Clean the prism with a dry or slightly damp cloth — never immerse the instrument in water
  • Fermenting or finished beer: apply a refractometer alcohol correction, or confirm with a hydrometer
