Weyermann Carafa Special Malt Type 3 (1300-1500 EBC)
Produced from dehusked German barley, Weyermann® Carafa® Special Type 3 is one of the darkest roasted malts available, delivering deep color and complex roasted notes without the harsh bitterness typically associated with darker grains. Its bran-free composition gives a smoother, softer flavor profile, making it ideal for dark beers where intensity and drinkability need to coexist.
Flavor: dark chocolate, mild roast coffee, subtle toast, smooth bitterness.
Roasted Malts
Roasted malts provide the characteristic deep color, roasted aroma, and nutty-to-bitter flavor found in dark beer styles. Carafa® Special Type 3 belongs to the darkest end of this spectrum — offering intense color (1300–1500 EBC) while maintaining a refined, rounded flavor.
